Life gets hard sometimes. There’s no doubt about that. No matter how bright and rosy things seem at any given moment, we can’t deny the fact that, at some point in our future, we’ll have to contend with difficult situations.
Just eighteen months ago, totally out of the blue, I found out that my fiancé had terminal cancer. Now, in the final phases of her life, I’m struggling to remain happy, but I’m still working hard. I’m still writing daily while she sleeps next to me in her hospital bed. I’m not letting the hurdles of life throw me off balance.
The truth is, we’re all going to face tricky circumstances - perhaps not as severe as mine, but tricky nonetheless. What separates those who succeed from those who fail is commitment.
See, some of us like to think that we’re committed, but really, we’re not. As soon as we reach the first pothole along the road to success, we’ll stop the car and turn right around.
Successful people don’t stop. Even when life gets hard, they continue. They take challenges in their stride.
Instead of falling into despair the moment your life doesn’t go as planned, stop yourself. Recognise that this, like any difficult situation, is a challenge. It’s a test. It’s an opportunity to learn and to grow.
So roll up your sleeves, take it in your stride and keep moving forward. That’s what I’m doing.
Wellness Wednesdays: Creativity isn’t all about working hard. To continue producing meaningful content and moving forward, we have to look after ourselves. We have to keep our mind and body sharp. That’s what Wellness Wednesday is all about.
