The process of creation is a difficult endeavour. It’s fantastic, awe-inspiring and one of the most enjoyable actions to undertake. But it’s difficult.
There are so many things to know. So many variables. So many questions. Am I doing this right? Should I edit that part out? Is anybody actually going to bother reading this?
Oftentimes, many of us refrain from actually creating anything at all because we’re scared we won’t get things perfect first time. But the thing is, unless we actually begin, we’ll never find the answers we’re looking for.
In many ways, the process of creation is a process of subtraction. Of trial and error. We learn how to do things right by doing things wrong, and unless we make mistakes, we’ll never progress.
My advice? Make a start, for one. And once you start, don’t stop.
Show up every single day. Even if you don’t feel like it, even if you don’t feel like you have any good ideas. That doesn’t matter. Just begin.
When you do, you’ll learn what’s right and what’s wrong. You’ll find the answers to your questions. You’ll refine your craft and make mistakes and learn how to correct them.
That’s the process of creation. But unless you can muster up the courage to simply make a start, you’ll never experience it.
